Project Overview

The team aimed to develop a dedicated app that aligns with an existing web application and enhances user experience. To stay competitive and respond to customer feedback, we needed to provide users with seamless collaboration tools for family members and trusted friends. This required creating a platform where users could securely share personal details, send private messages, and access all their important information in a centralized, single-pane view.

My Design Challenge

  • Seamless Collaboration: Allow users to collaborate effortlessly with family members and trusted friends, enhancing connectivity and shared management of personal details.

  • Secure Information Sharing: Provide a secure platform for users to share personal details and send private messages internally, ensuring data privacy and security.

  • Centralized Information Access: Develop a single-pane interface where users can easily view and manage all their important information, such as identifications, health documents, and passwords, in one location.

Specific Goals
Increase mobile application engagement, raise satisfaction

and new feature adoption increase.

Key Metrics
Increase user score, increase in adoption rate.

Discovering The Challenges & Use Cases

In the Discovery Phase I emphasizes exploration and insight-gathering, setting a strong foundation for data-driven design decisions.

Key Activities:

  • User Research: Conducting interviews, surveys, and observations to uncover user needs and challenges.

  • Competitive Analysis: Reviewing competitor products to identify strengths, weaknesses, and market opportunities.

  • Contextual Inquiry: Observing users in their natural settings to gain contextual insights.

  • Stakeholder Interviews: Engaging with stakeholders to clarify goals and limitations.

  • Journey Mapping: Outlining user journeys to highlight touchpoints and identify opportunities for improvement.

Defining Requirements

In the Define Phase, I translate insights from the Discover phase into a focused problem statement. This stage sharpens the design focus on the most pressing issues, ensuring solutions that truly address user needs.

Key Activities:

  • Affinity Mapping: Clustering research findings into themes to reveal patterns and insights.

  • Persona Creation: Developing personas to represent key user segments.

  • Problem Statement Definition: Formulating a clear problem statement that encapsulates the primary challenge.

  • User Scenarios: Drafting scenarios that depict how users might engage with the solution.

  • Experience Mapping: Outlining the entire user journey to pinpoint gaps and areas for improvement.

I want to highlight that this is the definition phase of UX.jpg

The Personas

'I need a centralized & secure application to manage my life, medical, financial and estate details. Additionally it would be helpful to collaborate with family!'

Alexa Smith

65 Year Old,

Grandma of 3

'I spend a lot of time in the doctor's office and need a place to manage, get notifications  and share medical records with my wife and daughter.'

Charlie Rodriguez

45 Year Old,

Retired Military

'My nana needs my help managing and communicating her financial records in a single application. I need to be able to DM and collab on her account!'

Courtney Moore

32 Year Old, Family Collaborator

Once the team identified the target personas, we needed to gain a deeper understanding of how each persona would interact with the app. This process was crucial in mapping out the customer journeys for each persona, allowing us to design optimal experiences and address areas of overlap effectively.

Ideating The Experience

In the Ideation Phase, creativity drives the process as I explore a variety of solutions. This phase includes ideation, prototyping, and iterative testing, enabling experimentation with different approaches and refinement based on user feedback.

Key Activities:

  • Ideation Workshops: Leading brainstorming sessions to generate a diverse set of ideas.

  • Wireframing: Drafting low-fidelity sketches to outline the structure and layout of potential solutions.

  • Prototyping: Creating interactive models to test concepts and gather user feedback.

  • Design Critiques: Collaborating with team members to review and enhance design ideas.

  • Usability Testing: Testing with real users to uncover usability challenges and improvement opportunities.

Time To Deliver

In the Deliver Phase, the top solutions are finalized and prepared for implementation. This stage focuses on refining the design, completing final testing, and ensuring readiness for deployment.

Key Activities:

  • High-Fidelity Design: Developing polished, detailed designs ready for handoff to development.

  • Usability Testing: Validating the final design with users to confirm it meets their needs and expectations.

  • Design Handoff: Preparing design specifications and assets for a seamless developer handoff.

  • Iteration: Making final adjustments based on testing feedback.

  • Launch Planning: Coordinating with stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful product or feature launch.
